Short Bolt: Most serious tractor buyers wanting a tractor for yard work on 5 acres or less are in the market for small tractors. Larger and especially six cylinder models may seem cheap. Try steping up to the parts counter, you'll soon get a lesson on what is cheap. I have 3 small tractors, Farmalls SA, 130 and 140. I used these tractors commercially until about 5 years ago. They have more silly little things go wrong now than when worked hard most of the time. I'd like to have a 656D around, but what would I do with it other than create a bill of expence for myself. Most 50+ hp tractors bought by hobby farmers, urbanites using them for yard work, etc. end up parked out of sight in the back 40, and the owner is either unwilling or unable to bear the cost of rebuilding or repairing them. It's really just the dummies that get on here to brag about buying a 706, 856, 1066, etc. for $3,000 to $5,000 to mow 5 acres of grass. The smart folks buy a tractor under 40 hp and go quietly about their business.
