Sometimes farmers can make some pretty ingenious repairs, sometimes not. Started to work on an M carburetor, and found a large wood screw holding the choke plate to the shaft. The picture is not real clear, but I think you can see the screw.

That could have been the early, low budget forerunner of the "Tornado" mileage/HP device! lol
Those screw spirals create a swirling "Vortex" that aids in atomizing the fuel mix...
Yea right!

The idea behind that is that it works just like a barbed-wire fence, except instead of for cows it's purpose is to keep mice from getting in the carb when the tractor's in storage. Must work- ya didn't find any mice in there, did ya?

I don't blame the previous owner. That screw is less likely to come out. We put a brass screen above the carb to keep the loose screwws from going into the cyclinders. Twice, once with a picker on, we had to pull the head to remove a carb screw that had make its way into the cyclinder and became inbeded in the top of the piston.

That is just a tuned venturi turbulence device. Gets better mileage.

Are you suggesting it should have been a brass lag bolt?
