I read some where where a guy had put a SMD kit in an MD. So I was wondering what was the differences between the two engines. I've a locked up MD that will be rebuilt next year.

The Super M and Super H also came standerd with disc brakes instead of the band brakes and they also as metioned have a slighty larger bore and more power. The gear ratio is also diffrent.

The main difference would be the pistons and sleeves. A Super MD engine has a larger displacement, meaning larger-diameter pistons and sleeves.

I believe you would need to have the engine block bored out to accept the Super MD sleeves. Other than that, there's nothing spectacularly different between the two engines.

Some people mistakenly call the M overbore kit a "Super M" kit. It's not the same. The M overbore kit has thinner sleeves so you don't have to bore out the block.

According to Guy Fay's Tractor Data Book the MD has a D-248 while the SMD has D-264 engine. The gear speeds are a little different along with other minor things.
