Every time I get close to purchasing an item at a close to reasonable price it myseriously sells localy. Last night a feller evidently sold his tractor to a neighbor at midnight

All of us like a bargain and of course a seller doesn't want his item going dirt cheap. Since ebays fees are high for putting a reserve on an item, lots of sellers prefer to end auction early because we bidders are waiting till the end. I listed and sold a Ford 9N and had 44 people watching it. Now this tractor was worth about $650.00. So instead of ending auction early, I thought since so many people were watching it that it would sell around that figure. Unfortunately, it sold for $310.00. But other times you let it go and a $50.00 item brings you $78.00. What do you do ??? Just my 2 cents.

for sure! The items that jump out of sight in the last few minutes offset the ones that go begging. I start almost all my sales at 99� and it works real good for me.

I was bidding on an item the other day and was close to getting it cheap. The seller ended the auction early because of an "error" in the listing. Yea right! Most times I have gotten along great getting stuff off of ebay. You can find things on there that are nearly impossible to find anywhere else, parts included.

Yeah, but I have to give guys the benifit of the doubt. Just Monday I had an item listed for a neighbor and he said "sell it" to another friend here localy, I said "OK" cuz it didn't have any bids anyway. Then when I got home it had a bid so I had to cancel it and end the sale. No what I liked but what do you do? Now on items of my own when somebody asks about ending the sale early, the answer is "no, you will have to bid like everybody else"

My favorite is a local seller here, sells some small "horse farm" equipment on ebay. He has a couple of feedbacks (positive) that come from different "buyers" for the exact same piece of equipment. Something shady there...

Most likely the bid just didn't go high enough to satisfy the seller, so he just ended the auction. If the seller wanted a certain amount, he should have put a reserve on the auction. That way everybody knows what they must do to win the auction, and if the reserve is too high, the item doesn't sell, plain and simple.

Yep,

That little practice is a total crock.

Shouldn't be allowed; either they sell via a binding auction or don't put the silly thing on there to start with.

Sorry yer feelin's got hurt. People are just plain cruel at times.

It's not allowed. The problem is that there are millions of auctions going on at any given time, and there's no way to effectively police them.

Nat, actually, it is allowed. When you choose to end an auction early, you are given several reasons to choose from as to why you are ending it, "item was sold locally" is one of the options.

So it is OK with E-bay if you lie because you didn't put a reserve on your item? Boy that fosters a lot of trust! Actualy on this last Item I met the fellow's reserve. I have had the same thing happen on items that bosted "No Reserve" and "Absolute auction".

Sloroll, If you met the reserve price you should have won the tractor. The fact that the seller ended the auction kind of hints that maybe the seller is a bit shady? I don't know. Lately I have noticed quite a bit of suspicious looking activity on e-bay. I have started to compile a list of suspicious e-bay sellers, just to protect myself.

:? ) Mornin Allan. Oh just wanted a small chore tractor before winter. And I should have noted I did get a heck of a deal on an F-20 From NE Cowman. That is one auction that probbaly should have been stopped. Hey I got a pic of that Cub would you like to see it. Just about ready to rehang the engine my 966 bought. Pete is beside himself. If I had one complete week non stop, I think he'd be strafing combines.

As much as we b@@ch and moan about the cost of our tractor hobbies, the airplane hobby is much worse! Been there, done that. There's nothing I would rather do than get back into flying, but man! What a horribly expensive habit!
