Hey

My McCormick W6 is a 1951 model. I'm wondering if it was possible to get hydraulics for this tractor from the dealer. I mean was it possible to have a set of remotes say to run a disc harrow or other attachment? I see other pics of W6's with hydraulic lines running from the front of the tractor. Is this where the pump is located. Thanks for all you input and I look forward to feedback.

You can add live hydraulis off the distributor drive- Like the super M's and super W6's, but that is expensive. You would be better off getting a pump from Northern Hydraulic or Force America and mount it off the front of the engine with the shaft going thru the hand crank hole. Many T-6 and TD-6 dozers are set up this way.

Then you would have to add a tank to hold the hydraulic oil and hydraulic control valves to run you implements.

In 1951 you could get factory or dealer installed
(can't remember which, maybe both)on W-6 series.W series live hydraulic was available before row crop.

Looked up some info on this, according to Guy Fay letter series tractor originality guide.Live hydraulic attachments were advertised for W-6,WD-6
O-6,ODS-6 and OS-6 in february 1951.Offered only at factory first, but soon a field attachment was available.W-6 with engine 29137 and older need front cover and plate changed to use attachment.
If original is no concern a pump from M&W or Super
M,SW6,SMTA,SW6TA,400 or 450 with manifold for Hyd.
lines mount a reservoir, relief valve and spool valve and lines. The super 6 series with live hydraulic set up could be used also.

Not possible from the dealer NOW. Maybe in 1954, but not now... You have to go to the aftermarket and used parts dealers.

I don't know if the W6 had a belly pump option like the M, but it might be a possibility because the frame and rear end castings were the same on the ones I've seen.

What you're describing is the distributor-drive hydraulic option, or "live" hydraulics as it is popularly known. The pump bolts in between the front engine cover and the distributor. There's one problem with that, though... You need to have a newer tractor with heavy-duty timing gears and the right front engine cover for the pump to fit. 1951 Ms had the right gears and front cover, but I don't know if the W6s did...

The W6 and the M used the same engine, anything that will work on the M will work on your W6.
