I have this thing in pieces on the bench. Looking at the gear side of the cover plate, I am holding a precision Starrett square on edge across the face. The only light I see is where the gears have milled a .001 - .003 semi circle (load side) into the face of the cover. I can't see or rock with the square, any warpage. This thing had half scale oil pressure when I got it but I never worked it hard like the other SA which drops to probably 10 psi or less at full throttle when I plowed deep with it last year. (suspect it's warped and needs attention)

Would you put it back together and go on? Or would you lap the cover back down to true flat?

Thanks for all the input. The SA that is still together and that has the very low oil pressure after being worked hard, supposedly had a rebuilt engine when I got it. Makes you wonder just what some peoples meaning of "rebuilt" is. Ill get to that problem later. Its funny, you can run it all day under light load and you'll have just about half scale oil pressure. But when you really work it, it goes to zippo. Oil heats up & thins down and I guess it just spills out of larger than normal clearances instead of staying on its track to the next item thats needs lubrication. Is that about right? And is the way this particular tractor is behaving a tell tail sigh of large oil clearences?

The one in my hand, from the other SA just has a littlr wear onit. Of all the machines in the shop, the one I lack is a surface grinder. I do have a friend around the corner that has a Harig 612. Guess Ill pay him a visit.

I would agree with Jon on checking those bearing
clearances. Should be about .0015" clearance on all bearings. I don't think the Super C has cam bearings which is also a reason for low oil pressure. With an oil pressure fed oil system
you can have closer tolerances. A dipper system
needs more clearance. Hal

Hi Scott, I dont remember reading your other posts but sound more like bearings than pump. I think 3 thousands is ok by the book for the pump but remember pressure is made through the bearing clearances. You may want to try some platic gauge in the crank for one to see if your bearing are worn. Cam bearings cant be checked with it but thats a good place to loose pressure also. JON

If you know someone with a machine shop, it would take almost no time to surface grind the plate to flat. Hand polishing on a flat is ok, but I prefer a K.O.Lee grinder and 5 minutes.
The way it is is probably OK, but why not tighten the system as much as possible.
