Hello everybody Today our 1660 combine with a cummins started acting up. Its like its laking power. Changed both fuel filters twice and inside of 1/2 to 1 hour same thing, back to lossing power. Were going to pull the fuel line off from the tank to the first filter in the daylight tomorrow morning and see if the strainer in the tank could be is clogged. Was just wondering if maybe the lift pump on the moter could be going and if anybody else has had this proplem. This is the cummins type and uses a lift pump like older cars had that were driven of the cam in the motor. And not like our old 1440 intenational that used an electric lift pump down on the side. Thanks in advance for the help and have a good harvest and a safe one.

Just ran into that one myself. Take the line off between the water filter and the tank see if youre getting a nice full flow out of the line. If not blow compressed air back into the tank direction. That solved our problem. Also check and make sure the vent to the tank is open. You can also use compressed air for that. Ours is a 1660 also. Hope you get it running well. Mark

It fixed the problem for now but it will come back ya need to clean the tank . One of the 750 Massey's that i bought ran super for a while till i got on a rough field and the fuel started sloshen around that was the first thing that i did was blow the line out worked good for half a day then wrigh back to running out of fuel here tha bottom of the tank had about two inches of old bean dust in it had to pull the tank off and steam clean it and it took two hours of cleaning to get it all out that stuff was like concret.

I would disconnect the outlet line from that pump
to see if it's pumping. If there's a strainer
in the tank it could be clogged with dirt and restricting the fuel flow too. Had that happen on a car with the electric pump in the tank. The sock over the pickup tube was full of rust and dirt. Replaced the pump and sock. Hal

If you do alot of soy beans i have seen the dust build up on the intank screen and just plug it solid and yes the lift pumps can and do go bad on them , now you can get that pump from just about anybody that sell trucks but the cheepest place is case ih if ya think i am kidding just call around , Cummins is real proud of that pump and the price reflect it ford is a littel cheeper and dodge is a lot less but then there is case ih and i by them for 94 buck US change the one fitting and it will fit a dodge.

Yes the dusk in the soybeans this year is more than normal. we will clean that screen in the morning and should call around about a pump and see if any of the local dealers have one. Monday's a holiday, Canadian Giving Weekend and hope we dont have to wait till tuesday to get one ordered. Thanks again there.
