Need some advice. I have a 434 IH that I don't use very often mainly in the winter. Last year I sent it in to have the tranny fixed they had to split it, while there I said to work on the igintion I had to cross the points to get it to start. They replaced ignition key as well as the Starter Solenoid.
Months later I went to start the Tractor and its dead, not even any lights.
I changed the battery and still nothing. The odd part is no power to anything,
What would be the problem? Faulty ingintion switch?
I am not sure where the juice comes from to feed the tractor.
I am going to have it for sale and would like to get it running so running so I can ask a bit more.
Thanks very much.
AL

Check those battery cables for corrosion. Check for voltage at the starter solenoid. Hal

Cleaned every possible connection at battery and ground as well as starter motor.
I have power at one side of the solenoid, should I have power at both sides?

Now check for voltage at your starter switch. Your solenoid is energized when you turn the switch or push a button to crank your engine.
You may have a broken or corroded wire or a bad switch or starter button. Your lights are probably fed off that switch too. Hal

No, of course not. If you had power at both sides, the starter motor would be turning the engine over. The battery is directly connected to the solenoid through the heavy cable, so confirming that there's power there really proves nothing, except that the battery cable isn't totally broken.

Do you have power to anything else on the tractor yet? There should be a smaller feeder wire that either comes off the + terminal on the battery, or off the starter, and runs up to the key switch and light switch. This powers everything else on the tractor. That wire is where you need to start looking for problems.

I couldn't chase the wire, to hard with the loader on. I ran a wire from the neg battery terminal {tractor is pos grd}to the center terminal on the ignition switch and it turns over but will not start. Maybe another terminal ???
I have been having a hard time tracing wires due to the fact I lost a part of my finger a few weeks ago and anything I touch with it hurts like hell .So just to let you know I am not trying to take the easy way out just the painless way LOL
