I bought a gem of a carb on E-Bay. Or so I thought. It is a zenith and looks just Like a 11115. The tag says 11188. I took it apart and it was in very good condition so all I did was put new gaskets on it. Didn't leak a drop( rare for me). Set the float a little high so it wouldn't run rich. Put it on my Super C cranked it it up and got black smoke at idle and a flutter at high Idle. Could not lean it out to save my life. If you put a load on it a high idle it seems to smooth out but gives black smoke. Will this carb work ? Does it need different jets? What did I Buy?

Thanks for all the Input. When I said I raised the float I had my perspecttive up side down.(looking at it upside down on the bench) I did lower the float but only about a 1/32. I might try lowering the level a little more. Thanks for the cross reference and the pdf.

Raising the float raises the fuel level in the bowl which can make it run rich. Also, check the needle valve - if it leaks, it'll run rich regardless of the float setting.

It seems to me that raising the float adds fuel to the bowl..... if it was me I would set the float at the correct setting..... if she is running black smoke, its flooding.....

You want the float set LOW if it runs rich, that is when the carb is right side up -- could be the jets though, as the others say.

ya, should work. Check here. But who knows what jets might be in it? Sometimes stuff gets changed.

According to what I found the 11188 was used on the U2 and U123 power units, which are basically the same engine as a C or super C, so it should work. I wonder if someone maybe drilled out the main jet trying to get more power?
