Can anyone tell me how a WD45 measures up to an M? What is weight, hp,torque? How does it pull?
What will it do on the belt, PTO?

I agree with what was said below. I have run both and both are good tractors. One thing that I like to point out to my Dad (an Allis man)is that back in the day, comparing an M to a WD 45 is not a fair comparison. The M was produced at the same time as the WC and WD. The WD 45 was made at the same time as the Super M, 400 and 450. The 45 might compare to an M, but a 400 or 450 will flat stomp it.

One thing about a 45 not mentioned is that it will used half the fuel of the M for the same work.

I was to a plow day sunday with my SMTA and pulling a 4-14s plow. There was a WD45 with 2-16s on the snap coupler. We were plowing sod the WD did'nt have enough traction to pull it and had to quit. I was able to keep going with the SMTA. The WD would be handier than the M for PTO work but that would be the only thing. The SMTA would be the best for every thing.

The original M Farmall was rated at 36 horsepower. Most of them recieved an overbore kit when it was time for a rebuild because it resulted in more power with no extra cost. My 1940 M easily puts out 46 horsepower, which matches the WD-45, but the M is heavier, and the 38 inch rear rubber will walk over the ground easier than the smaller tires on the WD. I am 6 feet tall, with long legs, I never was comfortable riding a WD, but the M fits me quite well. When comparing Allis to Farmall, neither is any better or any worse. One brand will do certain things better, the other will do other things better. It's all about preferances.

There both really nice tractors top of the line in their day. The M is quite a bit bigger than a 45. There rated horsepower for the M is around 40 and around 43 for the WD 45. As for the pulling aspect I would say they both pull good but in diffrent classes. In the club I pull with the WD 45 is a 3500lbs to 4500. tractor and the M is 5500, 6500. Had to say which tractor is best but if I had the choice between the two I would go with M, IH POWER. Andrew
