Me again,

There is a pretty sweet old Hydro 70 in town that I've been kinda dickerin' on.

Strong tranny, sounds pretty sweet and good rubber (3 new, one rear is old). Has a fair sized DUAL loader, 540 PTO and dual remotes, but it is a darned gasser. Runs and drives, steers fine.

It needs a seat and one axle seal. They say that they will hang a factory 3 point for me, but I gotta pay for that.

What is something like that worth, do ya think?

Thanks Guys,

Allan

I don"t know what they are worth today, but I"ve got just the tractor you describe but with 3 pt, canopy and no loader.Only use it on the feeder wagon about 50 hrs a year but it is the cat"s meow for that job. Paid 3000 for it about 15-18 years back. Never any trouble. Has about 4900 hrs now.

Allan. I was looking at a Hydro 70 here at the local yard on consignment from a potato farmer. Had been on the digger most of its life and the hydro to the tune of 4700 dollars was redone just recently, had a junk cab on it but otherwise pretty good ol tractor. I really couldn't bring myself to give 7000 for it so it sold to a local farmer who was gonna use it for haying and feeding dry stock cows. Well here two months later it showed up at the local consignment sale on Sat and went through and brought 5000. I know the guy who bought it and will use it mostly for cutting and baling hay and should do that just great. I would think with the loader about 6500-6800 should buy it if there is some waranty on the hydro for 12 months or so. Maybe prices are higher there than here but can't imagine that tractor in demand in any big farm operations for tillage these days. This was a diesel and the gas should be 1000-1500 less I would think. Migraine

You know I'm no expert at all on this newer stuff but I did some reaserch on a 656 Hydro that I was really hot after. I found if the Hydro shot craps it was going to cost me near the cost of the tractor to fix. I felt that I just couldn't gamble that much on the hydro unit of a 40 something tractor and my checkbook. I still would have liked it, it was smooooo ooth! I don't know nuthin about a 70 though. Glad to hear the Mrs. is feeling better all the time!

I think the Hydro 70 is a 656 hydro, 'bout one year removed and with a new set of decals, isn't it? Although, the framerails look just like my 686, that is, bolted to the outside of the bell housing.

Dunno, sure is a sweet operating outfit, but that gas deal is kind of a bummer. Just need another "ding around" tractor.

Gas is cheaper than diesel right now. When I was still on the farm we kept a larger gasser (AC 190XT) around because we knew it would start in the winter. There was a certain amount of comfort knowing that if the power went out and the block heater wasn't working we could feed our cattle and plow our way out. For a didle about tractor I think gas would be a good choice for those reasons alone. Poop around with it as a secondary outfit but when the need arises (powering a generator?)you got it on the front line.
