Hey farm-all-the-way, i also think that it was probably ordered white from the factory and not standard IH issue.

Here in the UK Fordson Major tractors are as common as Ms in the USA. They were painted all blue with just the wheels painted orange but over the years restorers have painted the removable front grilles orange. I own a Fordson Major Diesel tractor wich my uncle bought new in 1956. This tractor as never been painted but when i take it to shows the younger tractor owners tell me the grilles are the wrong colour. MJ

It's definitely not STANDARD IH, and could very well have been ordered white, but it's FAR FAR FAR FAR FAR more likely that the person that repainted this particular tractor took a plain-jane old red M and spent a LOT of time painting it white.

The tractor in the picture is HEAVILY customized, probably for pulling. The tires are way too big for a standard M. The paint job is nowhere near correct even for a "White Demonstrator."

I agree Nat, and I understand that anyone could easily take any M and paint it white. But it"s still a very pretty tractor.

Heck son, don't let them intimidate you. By now, you're probably as sick as I am of them trying to talk you out of the satisfaction you had with that beautiful tractor. They don't know any more than you do, nor do they have anything backing what they say. If in your heart you honestly think it's a white factory demonstrator, there's no need to apologize for it. Just go right ahead and call it such. Some of these guys must have too much of their self worth wrapped up in your tractor.

I wish our M looked like that one. I love the oversized tires and the white paint. It makes it look like a lot beefier tractor. The only problem I could think of with owning a white tractor is that it must be a pain in the rear to keep clean, and it must be blinding on a bright day!!!

Lots of people have opinions on the subject, but NOBODY can PROVE that it did not come from the factory like that. Also, nobody can prove that the dealership did not paint it like that when it was new.

If you could find someone who worked at the originating dealership who could swear that it came a certain way, then that would be as close to proof as you could get, barring actual paperwork on that serial numbered tractor.

Also, a complete laboratory analysis on the layers of paint may detail that the white paint was applied directly to the IH primer from the factory, or on the original factory red paint, or even on subsequent repaints.

Lots of people with lots of opinions and lots of heresay. At the end of the day, no one knows 100% for sure that it did, or did not, come white from the factory because a certain dealership owner wanted it that way for his own personal unique demo tractor.

The question is not whether it came from the factory that way, but whether it is a white demo. It is not a white demo. The tractor in the picture has the wrong wheels and rims, and I believe IH on the grille, and who knows what else on closer inspection.

I agree with you, I managed to talk to the friend of the owner of the tractor through e-mail, and he said that the owner just painted it white to show. And I believe it does say IH on the grille.
