1935 F-20,in restore process, have pulled it from one place to another(not in gear)a couple different times. Now that we have started back together with it,now there is all kinds of noise in trans or rear end when we push it.Here is the question, could it be because when we were putting the "u joint" back together the yoke on the motor didn't slide back,so could this have pulled on the trans side yoke thus causing the noises from the back half?

I guess it don't matter how what happened but you are going to have to figure out what's wrong and fix it.

Yes this I know but to save time ya know not wanting to tear appart a fresh painted tractor just to see whats wrong in the gear case. Was just want to know if when the u joint was put together and the front yoke didnt move like it should have,if for some unseen reason that the stress had to have came from some place so I was thinking that it pulled on the back yoke thus screwing something up in the rear end causing that noise.Or could it just have decided to start making noise for the heck of it?Guess I need to tear it appart and see.

Cowman's not trying to be mean... He's just trying to tell you that there's no way on God's green earth that we could possibly know what the problem is on this end of the phone line. Like most of the Farmalls up through the late '50s, there really wasn't one Achilles's heel thing that always breaks, leaving everything else in perfect shape. If it's making noise, it's not going to always be one particular thing...

Yes, you're going to have to tear it back down and figure out what's wrong. Sorry.

If the tractor was towed several times, and if the tractor was idle/stuck/non-operating for years before that, there may be bearing dammage caused by dry bearings from sitting and the transmission gears not all turning (lubing all bearings) when the towing is happening. (I know this happens on several Farmall/IH tractors). Leaving it in high gear with the clutch chained down, or the clutch shaft removed will lube things.
I hope it is simple, but let us know the answer to help others.
