I am working on a cub for a guy, tune up. It had a bad ignition switch and points. I changed all that. My question is does it need a resistor between the switch and the coil? it is a 6volt tractor. thanks

No, not unless you put some weird 3V coil on it...

Resistors are only necessary if you do a 12V conversion, and don't change out the old 6V coil.

If the wiring is an original 6V positive ground system, there should be either a voltage regulator or cut-out, but no external resistor that I'm aware of. A common problem is that many of these tractors have electrical systems have been cobbled together over the years, so what you may be working with now is anyone's guess.
