My old "A" starts on the 2nd or 3rd crank. (No electrics) Runs good for 2 or 3 minutes, then starts skipping and without warning quites. Where should I look first to correct this ??

Thank's in advance...

Pull the carb and do a cleanout....It sounds like: a)crud in carb--down from the tank, or b)your carb float may be stuck and will only let a small amount of fuel in at a time. If you are handy with an exacto knife, get some gasket material and make your own gaskets to replace it, or get a carb kit which should have the two gaskets required. Either way, sounds like a fuel problem to me, as we had the same type thing happen to an SC we had. BobG in VA

I would remove the plug on the radiator side of the carb as removing the gas line going into the carb is not easy to rethread back. I f no gas comes out check the sediment bulb and see if there is gas there. Probably plugged at the outlet of the gas tank. There is also one at the bottom of the carb you could remove. Gas should run out free when either plug is removed.

I used to camp (in my youth) right near you in Windhall Brook. Pretty country where you are. I envy you.

When it quits, see if there's fuel in the carburetor. Remove fuel line at carb and check for a good flow, just a trickle your tank may needs to be cleaned of rust & dirt. Could be crud in the carb too. If fuel is ok I would change the condenser as mentioned. Check for fire at your sparkplugs, you will need someone to crank engine when checking this. How long after it quits will it restart? Hal
