Greetings-
I have a International 784 with a 4 cylinder diesel. Starts and runs good - no smoke- white, black, or blue.
Sits for 2-4 weeks gets half gallon or so of green antifreeze in oil. I notice it is too full of oil on dipstick and take drain plug out, drains green then turns to oil.
Any ideas/theory on internal problems associated with this? Head gasket-or ? what could cause this and what to look for.
Any insight is appreciated.
Thank you-

Get a radiator pressurizer kit. Put the pressurizer on in place of the existing radiator cap. Take the oil pan off. Pump up the radiator to normal operating PSI. There should be antifreeze dripping from a cylinder or cylinders.

Chances are that you have a bad O-ring or O-rings, but you can't just assume that. Had a neighbor who did this and the test didn't show any leakage from the O-rings, but he still had water in the oil. Turned out to be a cracked block. I know this is unlikely, but if you don't determine for sure how its getting in the oil pan, you could do a lot of work and still have the same problem.

Hi Brad, 784 has D246 Diesel engine, most likely the "O" rings at the bottom of the sleeves. The colder it gets the more it will leak. I know it takes some work to take the oil pan off but then you can see which sleeve is leaking.
It would be wasted money just to replace 1, should replace all 4 "O" rings. Was it ever over heated?

Hope this helps

Hi Brad, my Dad's 454 a D179 engine did this about 15 years ago after the fan belt broke and he overheated it. We kept using it for about a month after, released the rad cap so there was no pressure in the rad, would drain the oil plug every morning before using. Had IH change "O" rings, new piston rings and hone sleeves. Tractor is still running today with over 15000 hrs on the engine.

So I guess antifreeze went to the bottom of the oil pan and never really mixed with the oil.

My 2 cents

Definetly sounds like the o-rings around the bottom of the sleeves are leaking. Those engines will do that once in a while. Time for a full overhaul. Pulling the head and sleeves and replacing the o-rings will cure the leak, but your bearings have surely been damaged by the coolant contaminated oil. Can't replace the rear main bearing on that engine without splitting and removing flywheel.

make sure you get the timing marks on the balancer right if and when you tear the engine down....one tooth off will make her shake like crazy!! I used a white grease pencil when I worked at the dealer. It is real easy if you pull the motor but not bad on an in frame either.
