I have a 1979 1086 that has no heat. The heater hose off of the engine is warm where it enters the cab. Fan works well but blows cold. Does anyone know where the heat exchanger is located in the cab and best method for troubleshooting. Any advice is appreciated. 23 degrees this morning in southwest Iowa. Thanks, Davin

the heater core is in the top of the cab. Should be able to take screws off and find it no problem. It is more than likley stoped up.

If the core is located above the main components of the cooling sys., get the tractor up to operating temp then bleed air out of the core. High placement of cores allow gasses to be trapped and or collect there making a "vapor lock" bleeding the highest hose at the inlet to the core may be the ticket.
It could be plugged also, but my recommendation is important to function after repair.
Good luck, and I hope I'm correct.

Did the engine get up to operating temperature?
I was thinking the thermostat may be defective.

Your heater core is probably plugged. I'm not familar with that tractor, but you should be able
to follow the heater hose into the cab and locate the heater. You may be able to back flush the heater. If your antifreeze has lost its rust inhibitor it will circulate that rust through the the heater and will eventually plug the core. Hal
PS: 23 degrees is pretty cold without a heater. We haven't even had a frost so far, but a lot of rain in MD. Over 15 inches this month.
