Carb hairline crack repair

Before this old carb is goes back together, I like to repair a hairline crack located at one of the four bowl-
to-body screws. It does not affect the bowl, but I'd hate to see it crack more as I torque the two halves together. I could use some JB Weld to reinforce it (ugly), or maybe silver solder. Any suggestions?

Also, to keep a dip-stripped carb from oxidizing, and you do not wish to paint it, should you coat it with clear?

Thank you.

Thanks folks for the opinions.

I will gladly replace it if someone has the part. The carb is a Benix/Zenith spec'd for a C-135. Not intended for an A which I prefer, but it came on the rig.

Part # 374203R92 // 124758. Actually right now I cannot remember the crack's exact location (upper or lower half), but I will get it out tonight and confirm it, and post a 'wanted' note. Thank you.

I agree with old, replace that part. The JB weld cannot be applied thick enough to add any strength unless you really gob it on.

That's very un-American of you, going against Paul Harvey's wisdom.

My self, I'd at least replace that part of the carb. It shouldn't be that hard to find it and theres probably more then a few people on this site that would have it. Shoot if I knew what tractor its from I might even one or 2 in my shop

Paul Harvey would use the JB Weld. And so would I.

The description does not say which carb, or what it is made out of. If it is zink/potmetal, there is no effective repair within cost consideration. If it is cast iron, it can be brazed if the person has experience with thin sections. In my experience, silver solder will not "wet" either of these metals. A replacement is probably the best advice.

If it doesnt leak, use it the way it is.
