This is the second one I have rebuilt one and I can't remember if I sprayed Permatex Hi Tack on the last head gasket or not. Im a pretty big fan of that stuff. Any suggestions to use or not to use it?

Thank You,

scott#2

I tend to stay away from sealer on hydraulics, on that particular item there are too many places for it to get inside unless you are very careful -- I did not use it on mine and it doesn't leak.

Scott, can't answer your question, sorry.
But I'm thinking about re-doing my own, since it's leaking as bad as Cheney's aide.
Since you've done an SA before, would you be willing to tell me, first of all, is this something I can do in my garage, I've never had it off before. Any special tools required? I bought a gasket kit when I was at an IH dealer for my governor. Is there any particular order to proceed, and anything I have to watch out for?
Appreciate any advice/tips you'd be willing to give me.

A Blue Ribbon serviceman's handbook, GSS-1024 is available on rebuilding the touch-control unit for the Super A, Super C along with the Cub. It can be obtained from www dot binderbooks dot com. It appears to be the most complete info available for rebuilding the unit that I have seen. I learned quite a bit by reading through it a few times. I've never rebuilt a unit but did some serious thinking about how to go about it after reading this book. The one thing which is repeatly stressed is cleanliness of everything during the entire rebuild. Most tools mentioned in the manual with the exception of a SE-1338-A pressure gage are likely found among your existing tools. It does mention a 1" and 2" micrometer along with an inside caliper will be required for checking for wear in the hydraulic pump. It mentions the need for Service Bulletin No. S-5550 to service the pump and block units. The GSS-1024 also has some good part breakdown pictures which identify the parts and assembly sequences. Hope some of this is helpful. Hal
