Being they are getting rare I think the best thing is to turn her into a trailer queen. What do you think?

IH made this baler in the UK as the B55T twine tyer and B55W as a wire twister. In the late 1960s i used to work one with a B450 tractor. The B55W had a BD144 diesel engine for a power unit and the B55T was PTO driven. We used average 28 hay bales to the ton. MJ

My brother has two 55T balers for parts. The engines are both gone but there are still many usable parts. Your's appears to have the "C" engine. Our 55T had the Cub engine which he just parted with a few months ago. This was the largest baler IH made at the time and these bales really stacked well. We only put 64 bales per load most of the time and use the hay forks to loft eight bales at a time into the barn. Only problem was they broke the floor joist once when we triped the forks with the trip rope.

Neighbor Dad traded help with had a 55T for MANY years, engine driven like that one. His was hand-crank start. I used to get carried away making HUGE windrows since I could slow down or stop to feed in the windrow. When He got a #37 PTO baler I had to learn how to rake hay ALL OVER again.

This is the baler we had when I was young. Very heavy. Pulled with an H and if the ground was a little soft the engine side would sink. Saw it stuck many times. Put a dual wheel attachment on but made it quite wide.

Also they have an odd size chamber. 15x19 I believe, rather than the standard 16x18 we see today.

Looks to me like the starter is right there below the oil filter along side the block at just about the oil pan to block joint level.

Yes I think you should save this baler. My uncle had one new in the late 40's and I remember him pulling it with a new Ferguson. His was a 55T with the front wheel. Looks like a good restoration.

So, I see other people reminiscing about model 55's but is the pictured baler a 55? How does it differ from the 45? (larger chamber? higher plunger speed? wider pickup?)

Yes.... Just all around a MUCH heavier built baler. And the picture shows the 55T decal just above the hitch.

Now that you mention it, I see the 55T lettering. Anyway, I have two 45's, one dead, the other still limping along.

Pretty good chance that's a C-153. It sure looks like one.
