Verify Light Switch is Working

How do I check if my light switch is working on my Farmall Cub? Since the Cub is not the easiest tractor to work on because of the hood and fuel tank assembly, I would like to know how to check the switch before I tear everything apart.

You've got to be able to get to the back of the switch to test for voltage and such. That's pretty tough to do with everything in place.

There's one terminal that is input, and the rest are output. Figure out which wire is the "hot" wire coming from the battery. You should be able to measure 6V (or 12V depending on the setup) from one of the wires to the tractor frame with the light switch off. If you can't, you've got a supply wire problem. Time to pull the hood/tank and figure out what's wrong.

Once you've established power, you should be able to move the switch to each position and detect voltage on one or more of the other terminals on the back of the switch.

If the lights go on and off its working. Just kidding! You can use a volt meter or an ohms meter to check the switch on board. Measure volts while in the system or disconnect one side to check ohms (switch opening and closing)
