Hello there, I recently took notice of a grey F-12 with rubber on front and steel on back that my late neighbor owned. I looked it over and it looks complete, but I couldn"t remember seeing a grey F-12, and I was also wondering why it, and some other Farmalls, were painted grey instead of red. Also, even though I"d be surprised if I should own it someday, I was wondering how much a complete but stuck grey F-12 with good paint is worth. Thanks guys,

Josh

Josh, when the faqrmall chain first started, they all were grey. I may be wrong but if I remember correctly it was after Inrenational Harvester merged with McCormick and a safety issue came up and they picked red because of the contrast in color to everything else. But then why didn't John Deere pick another color other than green. Like i said, I'm probably wrong as to why they went to red, but I do know that originally they started out gray. There is a lot of folks on this forum that would have a closer idea than me. What year is your F-12?

Just about all of the tractors were painted either gray or a very dark green. It had to do with the current technology of the paint industry. The dark colors would hold up very good when exposed to the elements, the brighter and lighter colors faded out to nothing very quickly.
