Did the 9-series Diesel engines have trouble with the cylinder heads cracking like the 6-series Diesel engines did?

For what it's worth:
There's a guy over on the Red Power forum, goes by the name of MB_Cat, who knows these engines inside and out. Owns several and still farms with them. He says one of the biggest reasons for them cracking, in addition to improper cooldown, is from having the pump timing wrong. People tried to give 'em too much fuel too soon or something, don't remember exactly what.

The 9 and 14 series had problems with a head cracking. People will say its because nobody didn't know how to operate them properly. No doubt a lot of diesel heads were cracked that way but I think there was more to it. The JD, Oliver, and Case don't have the reputation around here for cracking heads and they were just as popular as IH. I have had a few old IH mechanics tell me the heads had a design flaw or weren't design properly. We also followed the start up and shut down procedures to the letter on our TD 14A and the head still cracked.

Tractors were not the only ones with heads cracking. GM had the same problem with their 2.5
Liter engine. Never had to be overheated either.
I found bubbles in the recovery tank and pulled the head thinking it was a head gasket. Had it magna-fluxed and the head was cracked. Got 5 or 6
used heads and they were cracked too. Had to buy a new head OUCH. Hal

Yes, for the people who did not know how to properly operate a diesel engine.

I know most WD-9s that I have seen around home have the heads missing - most popular part to steal.
