The pistons are interchangeable in sets, with compatible sleeves. If you are planning on working the tractor, go with higher compression. The high compression pistons will help make more power, but the gas head makes the biggest difference in compression (23ccs vs. 52ccs). Using both is better yet. If you are going through the motor, considder having the cam reground to SH specs. By the way, high compression is something like 6.5:1. Low compression is down around 4.75:1. Depending on what has happened to the tractor, the crank may have been reground. Weld on the oil pan can be a bad sign. I think that some of the oversize bearings might be getting hard to find. Aftermarket suppliers might have different bearing sizes available than your IH (CNH ? or who ever they are today) dealer. There are some quirks with the rods and caps, so if you do not have a service manual, this could be a good time to get one.
