Now we have established my tractor is a 1940 with the wrong tag on it.I took the plate off to check out the governor, and I dont have the normal Farmall Spring with a hook on both ends. This spring has a hook on one end,and the other end has a metal block with a hole in it, made in the spring and it fastens on that end with a pin through the hole fatening it to the governor arm.Its not home made. Its a factory made spring, but Ive never seen one before.Anyone got any ideas? I'll be back on here tomorrow night. Thanks so much

Yep, even more proof that the tractor is a 1940.

So the 1940 version even had a different gov spring than my later M's?

My 1940 H has the same type of spring that you are talking about. I like that style, you can actually tighten up the spring by rotating that clevis end on the spring and possibly improve the performance of the governor. I am guessing that the spring with clevis end was too costly to manufacture, so they did away with it.
