Paul: These photos are living proof, everyone should go on a tractor ride. There is a lot of great scenery across North America, that most folks have never had time to look at from the seat of an auto or pickup. Big trucks are great but still usually going too fast to really take in the bountiful countryside. I never been on an official tractor ride, but in the course of doing custom work, I had on ocasion a few tractor rides of 60 miles and on one ocasion even a 100 miles. This spring we had to move a 6 row transplanter 60 miles. This machine was 18' both width and length. Trucking companies wanted big bucks. I said to Tony (my employer), "Why don't we tow it behind the tractor with escort vehicles ahead and behind for safety?" He said, " Problem is we don't know a route that has no narrow bridges or railway tressels. Since, I don't have anything else for you to do in pm, why don't you go home pick up you good wife and map out a route." That took us 6 hours, between narrow bridges, railway tressels, City of London to go around plus getting across a 4 lane highway on one of the busy access routes. By night fall we had it mapped. Next morning at sun up we set out. Me out front with pickup, Tony with tractor and planter and his daughter following. It took us 11 hours. His comment after the drive was over, " I didn't realize there was so much nice farmland north of London." I said, " I can understand that, you younger folks, all you can think of is getting in that car or pickup and speeding off down that 4 lane highway. You've lived here all your life, while I have only been here 4 years, and have seen more rural side roads in Ontario than you. My point is most folks have never taken time to enjoy the beautiful country side in their own county They would rather jet half way around the world, bring home some disease or virus, they or their neighbors are not imune to, just so they can impress us how much money they had to waste. I say waste as most cant tell you a lot about the country they were in, goes right over their heads. I say lets promote tractor rides, SEE AMERICA BY TRACTOR.
