I Need A Huge Favor! (Long)

Problem is, on this hydro, I can only get 'bout 8 or 9 mph in forward and it seems to lack any real "pulling power".

In reverse, I've got a solid 20 mph and the darned tractor digs like a full-grown badger; can't stop the thing. Speeds according to the operator's manual are totally reversed.

Engine braking is so solid that it absolutely slides the tires.

Okay, IT manual says that this symptom is caused by the high pressure lines coming down from the Control valve being reversed or installed backwards. I think this is what I've got 'cause someone has been in this thing at one time and the lines aren't under their hold-down clamp like they should be.

Before I open this thing up, will someone who owns a small frame hydro go out and look at these lines behind the starter? Do yours "Cross" like that? First picture is the left side of the tractor and the second picture was taken from the right side.

I don't know how this control valve works, but to my mind, the reverse port should be on the right side of the valve above the battery. My reverse line on the transmission (forward-most line) hooks to the left port of the valve.

Maybe you could take a shot of the left side of the tractor behind that starter showing those lines?

What gets me is that this thing is acting just like the IT manual describes. I know they use different oil routes for forward oil and reverse oil to cut the speed/torque in half.

That's the way I read it too.

It just doesn't "look" right nor make any sense why IH would lay that one line on top of the other with a chance to rub thru.

Took me totally by surprise yesterday. I was a pullin' and yankin' as hard as I could to get the old heifer stopped. :>)

I've got a real steep gravel driveway here. Darned old rascal spun the tires all the way to the top like a hot rod kid in reverse; but, acted like it didn't really wanna go up there in forward. :>(
