Alan, that resistor, if wired to the correct place, being the gennys Field post on a 2 wire Cutout Relay system, shouldnt see but a few amps and NOT run red hot, so I wonder like the good gents below if shes wired correct????? ??. If its somehow wired across battery voltage to ground it would get hot cuz its supposed to be in series with the gennys Field. See if you have a 2 terminal (BAT and GEN) Cutout Relay instead of a 3 wire (BAT ARM FLD) Voltage Regulator????? If a 2 wire relay, the gennys Field post should wire up to that switch which provides a dead ground for high chage but a resistive ground via that resistor for low charge. But if you have a VR the gennys Field post DOES NOT wire to that switch but to the Field terminal on the VR. The Field current regulating type of combination light and charge switch wouldnt be used on a full fledged VR but if re configured one could still use the light switch portion AS the gents mentioned if you had voltage or grounds etc converted you may need to regroup n wire her correct. Post back n let us know!!! QUESTION FOR BOB N RUSTY????? ? Is there an aditional light dimming ballast on those switches 4 position (L H B D) in addition to the field current ballast??? If so, I wonder if he has it wired incorrect????? ?? Its been a long time sice I worked on them Farmalls John T
