Spark Plug Review Farmall-A

A previous post discussed spark plug/heat ranges [Champion D21, Autolite 386] and I'd like to ask for your opinions here.

The spec book for an A called for brands Champion-15A, OR AC85S, OR Autolite BT8. I am uncertain if any of these are still available today.

When I purchased this ill-running tractor it had Champion Copper Plus 549-D18Y in it, and we've gotten it to run pretty well before the cosmetic tear-down, however it did run a tad rich, but the carb adjustments were frozen to further dial it in. That will be fixed by rebuild time.

Now I'd like the best heat range plug for a light use, & 'parade' tractor. Thoughts?

I prefer the Autolite 3186 over the 386, just a tad hotter, and seems to help with the slight flooding probelms I encounter sometimes with these old tractors.

In my several JD A, Farmall H"s and IH300U"s I switched years ago to AC C-86 or C-87 because I got tired of the Champions fowling all the time. In my opinion the AC"s last a lot longer than the Champions for my use.

From my years of working on these red tractors & the pooooo r gas we have now days, UD16 champions seem to work the best. You also must run a lead aditive in the gas or you will foul out the plugs right away.

If I may add, these Champion plugs; 549-D18Y, are spec'd for a IH Crawler T6 according to the Champion website.
