I have a 1949 Cub with the ajustable tie-rods and they are froze. Trying to free them but not having any luck. Tryed heat and still no luck. Anyone have any suggestions as to how to free them? They should slide out of the tube. I'm trying to move the axle out one hole and need to adjust it. Thanks for any advice you can give. George

Are you sure that your axle is not a fixed one as some were notadjustable just like some on the A were fixed.

Gene, they will expand ( slide in and out) the axles. Already moved them out one noch. George

OK i have had the problems also used wd-40 and a small hammer and tapped all along the length to get some penetration of the wd and finally got them loose but no fun at all. I have a friend who will let them soak submerged in water for weeks and usually they will come apart. His theory is that water rusted them and if you can soak long enough the water will free them. good luck like i said no fun at all.

Hal has the right idea - some type of penatrating lubricant and some time and it should free up. I like Kroil as well as PB Blaster. One thing I might add is that the rods must be straight or they will bind. I had one that I had cleaned and greased. It looked straight but aparently had a slight bow and it was a bear to get apart - I can't imagine what it would have been like if it was rusted as well.

Spray them with Kroil & let that soak. Then use more heat. Hal
PS: They probably haven't been moved since 1949.
