I have been posting over the last few months about my H carb problems ( working on it when I get time). Thanks for all your help!!! I have been able to get it to run pretty well!!! Before, it wouldn't idle down in the 400's. I found I had a ( WRONG) long screw/plug in the top carb half that was cutting off the idle air so I replaced it with the correct (short) one. I replaced the throttle shaft bushing and reamed it to size, replaced the throttle butterfly (NOS) and that little brass valve on the lower half (NOS). I put in a brand new IH float (it came set to the right height, I measured) and a new IH carb kit. Everything is great except it leaks from the bottom of the carb where the brass nut(that screws into the main jet)!!!! I have replaced the washer/ gaskets I don't know how many times. I am going crazy!!!!! Any ideas? Thanks!!

Hi,
I live in CT and I have a 1954 w 4. I had Bob at Woodbury Tractor, Woodbury CT come up he took my carb off cleaned it brought it back and it has worked excellently. Give him a call he is real good.

If fuel is leaking from the adjustable main jet (at the rear of the carb), you probably just need to tighten the packing nut. Did you replace the packing ?. Don't get carried away, just barely tighten it enough to stop the drip. The nut may be so tight that you can not turn the needle part of the jet with your fingers.

When you talk about replacing the washers / gaskets, it sounds like you are talking about the slotted 'nut' (on the front of the carb)that holds the mixing tube (brass tube that comes into the carb throat at an angle) in place. If that leaks with a new washer, the tube could be broken or cracked.

My packing is new ( new packing nut too) and it is just tight enough so it doesn't leak and can still turn the needle. It is leaking at that slotted nut. I have tried different tubes+ slotted nuts and it still leaks. It doesn't leak when running but it leaks when the tractor has sat for a while ( what ever gas there was in the bowl, I shut off the fuel valve). It leaks enough that if you put your hand on the bottom, you get gas on it. thanks!!

It looks like there should be a gasket under the fuel nozzle and the nut. If you take the washer off the slotted nut, can you tighten it up to the carb body (i.e. is the tube too long)? Otherwise it would seem like there would have to be a burr or a crack causing the leak.

Have you examined the area around that slotted piece closely? Sounds to me like maybe you have a crack in the bottom part of the carb.

I think your float is not adjusted correctly or is sticking.
