Ran into a real snag this week. Got a call from the local tractor shops lawyer! Notifying me, that I had 5 days to pay the bill and pick up my tractor in an as is state? The lawyer stated that due to a marriage problem the shop was closed, and locked. And only arrangements thru him would be allowed. So we had to go to the lawyer pay a$1112.00 dollar labor bill. I had payed for parts in advance. Then we took the trailer to the shop and loaded the 706 in pieces and boxes. After finding all the parts, we could and the new parts, thank goodness were there, we tried to discuss the issue of where is the 263 that came out? The lawyer said he had no control and was not liable for damages or loss! So now i have in my pole barn a 1965 706 gas with almost all new tires and wide front good sheet metal hub duals dual pto and a fresh 301 block pushed out to 40 over, all new pistion-ring set from valu built a new rebuilt head from valu- built all new bearings and gaskets sets, and a good STD crank, with over $7000.00 invested Whats it worth ?? Any ideas?? No more money to invest??

I'd have a tough time paying such a labor bill on work that wasn't finished but then again you probably wouldn't have been given access to what was yours. I'd especially have a hard time knowing that half (or more) of the thousand bucks was going into the pocket of a lawyer. But since my last divorce cost me over six figures in legal fees, you're not hearing from an unbiased source. My nephew started to law school last year and I told him I'd rather him tell me that he was changing his name to Ho Chi Minh.

Sorry, no good ideas, you'll have to decide if there is enough value in the missing pieces to hire a lawyer and pursue it. I doubt you'll get your money back. My suggestion would be either put it together and use it or else sell it in pieces on ebay.

Though bad, the situation has left you in fair shape, minus the time/effort to retrieve the parts. Legal battles are always hard on all but the (not responsible) lawyers.

The labor to put it together would be there in any case. Local FFA, or 4H clubs (with good leadership) might be a Win Win option. It is winter in most places, and prime time to organize a group effort for the new year.

Best of luck,
JimN
