Mitch: Most Super A did have the temp gauge for hydraulics. It seemed to disappear about 1954 or at beginning of Farmall 100. I've yet to see the needle move on one of them. I think it was a handy item if using the hydro creeper drive. That system used a remote valve and a hydraulic motor hooked to pto shaft. You tied clutch pedal in depressed position and hydraulic motor powered tractor from pto to transmission. with that small resovoir and continuous flow, one would have heat build up. It reduced all gear speeds by about 85%.

I have seen these tractors with loaders and that didn't move needle either. Hydraulic motors would cause more heat.

Dion is correct,it didn`t come equipped with one. You could get it as an option though. Mark

does the touch control run that hot that you would need a gauge? doesn't it screw in on the left hand side of the unit near the bottom?

I think under normal usage, the Touch Control system would never run hot. If you had a loader or something, which would amount to heavy use, then you might need the gage. Also, the gage would tell you if the system is running under pressure all the time (could be caused by mis adusted controls, etc.) as it will heat very quickly if running under constant pressure. However, you should notice a load on the engine if that happens.

We have had a Super C since new and I don`t think the needle has ever moved on the Touch Control temperature gauge. And yes,it screws into the lower left side of the reservoir. Mark

The hydraulic system did not have a temp guage.

Super A owner's manual supplement: "Touch Control Heat indicator", the manufacturer (only) cautions that implements striking the bottom of the tractor before reaching the end of the lift cycle could cause overheating of the Touch Control oil and damage to the hydraulic pump and seals (& the tractor itself). My '51 SA has that heat indicator, but as others have noted, I've never seen it move at all. It is connected at the bottom left side of the touch control cylinder block in the center of the cylinder block strainer cap (4-bolt cap). Must not have been standard equipment, since other pictures of the strainer cap in the manual don't show it.
