Due to neccessity, I was forced to replace my 113 engine with a 123 engine from a super C. My concern is with the water circulation. The water ports in the head gasket are much smaller than the ports on the block. Since this tractor was set up as a thermo-siphon system, I am concerned with over temping the head. What is the best method to enlarge the water port hole on the head gasket to allow for better water circulation?

Mark,
Get a C-113 head gasket from an A/B/C. It will fit and have the larger water jaket openings. I see them on ebay all the time.

My method wasn't pretty but it worked for me when I had to replace the head gasket on one of my C's. I took a piece of metal and drilled a hole about the size of the water ports in the head/block. I then used a ballpin hammer and tapped on the gasket to enlarge the holes. It wasn't real pretty but it worked and I don't have any leaks. I wasn't able to find a gasket for the C123 without the water pump. I guess the expect that everybody has upgraded to a water pump. My method was crude but it seems to be holding for me. A better method may be to sandwich the gasket between two pieces of flat metal and use a drill press to drill them out. I sharp bit would do a better job than a hammer. As long as you have the two pieces of flat metal clamped solidly then you shouldn't rip the gasket.

The gasket I have is for a 123 head but two different styles were made. One for the thermo-syphon and one for a water pump system.
