Needin' Help

This should be an easy fix and it's turnin' out to be a real bone-fide nightmare.

Can anyone tell me where to get that funny-threaded adaptor for the heat gauge thermocoupler?

The threads in the head are 1/2" pipe and when I got the tractor, it was plugged off; I see why now, cause this new gaugeset cost me $180!

The gauge is not pipe thread and it's not brass thread. I've been to every store in town and they just shrug their shoulders and look at me funny. :>(

Anybody know what's going on with this rascal?

If you go to an auto parts store, you can get an adapter for any automotive style temp gauge. When I need them, I buy this kit that has several different pipe diameter adapters in it. If you cannot find that, just buy the cheapest coolant temp you can find and it will contain one.

Good luck. It sounds like Gene B may already have you fixed up though.

Already been that route and hauled 6 adaptors home; they are a completely different animal entirely.

The original tractor senders use some sort of a "British thread"?

I just talked to Gene Bender on the phone. He runs down to his shop and says he found one that has those fine threads and he will mail it up here.

It's the weirdest thing ya ever saw; pipe on the outside and "almost" a national fine on the inside.

And, that's the only reason I bought the new gauge, 'cause the other one still works.

But, the adaptor didn't come with the new gauge either. So then, I run to every store in the county. No luck.

Local implement dealer who's parts man is a killer says, "It is manufacture specific"; whatever that means. :>(

But, Gene Bender says he can fix me up. Bless his heart!

Thought fer awhile there that I was going to have to run without a radiator cap and just watch fer steam! :>)

Things is tho, the thermocoupler fitting is identical to the original.

This is off the Hydro70. Should be the same all the way from 656 thru 686. Looks identical to the old one, which by the way, still worked but was just hangin' there and this is why I ordered the new gauge; thinking I would get the adaptor.

There were only two left nationwide and that's why I grabbed this one. Now I have two working gaugesets and can't tie either into the head.

I tried this little bit of farmer engineering, but of course it won't work; won't warm up enough to register.

This one is a head scratcher.
