it all started about a week ago i asked my son (11 yrs old) to hop on the old h amd move it about 75 foot. it moved without any problems as usual ok now two days later went to use the tractor it wouldnt start acted like dead battery so i put the charger on for three hours still no start got to messing with it and found that if you pushed the clutch in it would start just fine long story a little shorter i found that the drive shaft(52945d) had broken several teeth off also that the pto shaft would turn a3/4 round the lock up also when you were turning the pto shaft (engaged) the right brake pedal would move up and down about an inch any ideas? i keep turning the pto shaft back and fourth and it finally came loose. but it will still lock sometimes but is "gratie feeling " any ideas? many thanks terry t all locked up in middle tenn

I agree with river, that you most likly have a bad bearing I had the same thing happen on my H. It occured after I pulled it in the local fair. (I guess 12,000 lbs on the slead was just too much for those 50 year old bearings.) Anyway pull the top cover off and check for play in the bull pinion gear. You have to drop the bull gear to do it. Also check for wear on the gear. YOu can find used ones in a scarap yard. Good Luck Andrew

It sounds like you will have to look inside the gearbox to see what is the problem. When teeth start breaking, usually something is out of position. That and the grating feeling could indicate a bad bearing.

Will the transmission still shift gears ?
