Hard to Start Farmalls

I have a Super A and a Super C that are real difficult to get started after sitting for some time. It is a fuel problem with both, they don't seem to be able to suck up the mixture from the carb. Once I give them a shot of fuel in the spark plug holes, they fire up and keep running.
Seems to be worse in cold weather. Yesterday I unscrewed the needle valve on the carb of the Super C, squirted in some gas, screwed in the needle valve and she took off!
Got any ideas?

My ideas are that the choke plate is not completely closing or there is a spring loaded “door” in the choke plate that is stuck open or missing. there could also be water in your fuel that is forming ice crystals in the idle jet in the carburetor causing poor fuel uptake.

When was the last time you purchased gas for these units? The refineries make winter gas with higher vapor pressure and higher volatility. I had the same hard starting with my 4010 gasser. I had to heat the carburetor to get the gas to vaporize enough to start. If you have summer gas in the tank, this may be your problem.
Good Luck
