when I split this SC it had 2 springs 1/2 dia.X3 inches long attached to bottom of item pictured and the other end hooked some where in the torque tube. I don't see them in the parts manual. Am I missing something or are these springs something that someone has added.

Hal and Haas, thanks for the info. looks like I need to go to hardware store in morn and find a couple of springs close to what came out. One spring is broken and other is rusted enough that I don't want to put it back in. Do it right first time and not have to do it again!!!!!Thanks

Keith, I have a TC-44B Super C Part Catalog, May 1960 issue which shows these springs as reference no. 17 and part no. 355795R2 which are called clutch release bearing return springs. They appear to hook between the clutch release bearing retainer and part of the torque tube casting where the clutch shaft runs through the guide sleeve at the back end. They are shown quite clearly in my Super C Operator's Manual on page 55. Hope this helps, Hal.

Those are the clutch release bearing return springs and are shown as item no. 17 in the parts book, part number 355795R2. These are the springs that pull the release bearing (throwout bearing) away from the clutch levers and push the pedal back against the stop. They are the resistance for the "free travel" of the clutch linkage.
