hi!
i'm wondering if some of you out there can help me...
my father passed away in july and left behind his farmall model h... i've tried looking up the serial number...but, i've not had any luck finding what year this one is... i have noticed that all the pics i've seen on the web of the farmall model h have a double front tire....my dad's only has one...the serial number is 297546x1. Can someone help me find some info on this tractor?

I just sold a clean all original 1940 H for $1500.
No dents, good matched tires, started easy.

I would go slow. I had a lot of $300 offers before I found a good buyer. I just talked with him and all he did was paint it and it runs like a champ and he is happy.

My point is, if you know its a good tractor then wait for your price.

Best wishes.

Sorry about your dad, we are just temporary stewards of our domain.
To sell it, I would post an ad with picture in the photo ad section on left. Describe all you can, and have others help ID the implements. Tire condition is very important. Battery voltage, and type of ignition. dents and bent metal etc.
1000.00 plus implement value is mid pack if it is in unknown wear and moderate tires.

Your Dad's tractor is a 1948. The X1 means that it runs on gasoline. The single front wheel just made it easier to drive [made for row crops use.] Sorry about your Dad.

Jill, it should be a 1948 model. the x1 means its gasoline. The single front wheel models were used a lot for cultivating. It was an option from IH on a bunch of their Farmalls. I would also expect that it has a "belly pump" for hydraulics, assuming that your Dad did use it to cultivate. Good tractors. Treasure it and all the memories that go with it. BobG in VA

It is a 1948 model. The X1 means it was meant to run on only gas. If you have any other questions feel free to ask and someone will help you out.

The serial number lists are on the left side of this page. Where is the tractor located?

Every tractor has a different serial number. That's why they're called serial numbers, because they're numbered in series, meaning one after the other after the other.

In the serial number lists, only the first number for a particular year is listed. It's highly unlikely that your exact number will be listed. Normally it's in between two numbers. If your number comes after the first number in a year, but before the first number in the next year, it was made in that year. In this case, 1948 because it was between the first number for 1948 and the first number for 1949.

I tried to post the link for the serial # page, but I don"t think I"ve got it.
Anyway, the number given for a particular year is the first serial number from that year, probably asigned on January 2nd. So you just compare and see what two numbers YOUR serial number falls between, eg. Jan. of 1960 ser. # 200, and Jan. of 1961 ser. # 450. If I have serial #265, then I have a 1960

serial numbers- you have to click on "Farmall" (there are several IH categories), then click on "H and HV", then you"ll see the serial breakdown. Take the X1 off the end and just use the six digit #
1948!

Price depends on lot of things.
Where you are.
Shape the tractor is in.
What the implements are.
Picture is worth a thousand words.
In running condition, between 700 to 3500 dollars. Maybe more depending on the implements.
It all depends on how fast you have to sell and who you try to sell it to.

hi lloyd,
thanks for the info, it runs like a champ...my dad preferred it over his 8n and 9n... it has a plow in front and i want to say a disk in the back...but, i'm not sure... he used it to make rows for his huge garden every year. the paint is weathered....but, overall, it seems to be in good condition. we just started it a month ago and it started right up after sitting for almost a year. we need to sell it by mid january.
