Is the head for a distallate W9 different (lower compression) than a head for a gas W9?

Thanks,
Roger in Iowa

If you check the parts book you will find that the pistons were different. You should find several listed for hi-altitude and so forth.

I don't know for sure. (Seems I know nothing for sure nowadays!) However, it would stand to reason that a distillate head would have a lower compression ratio than a gasoline head.

Distillate has very poor anti-knock qualities therefore, it can't stand as a high of a compression ratio than gasoline. Heck, when the W-9 came out in 1940, gasoline itself wasn't all that great then, so the 335 gas engine had a CR of 5.4:1. Conversely, LP has good anti-knock qualities, and LP engines have typically higher CRs than their gas and distillate counterparts.

Many Nebraska tests show the LP versions of an engine besting a gasoline version in BHP.
