We got our first taste of winter overnight and this morning in So.Carolina. I have decided we don't want any more ice here, so y'all can just call it all back out west and up north!! How can I get my tractor done when I'm gonna have to spend the next month cutting up pine trees?! Well I can say it gave me a few hours to play with the Regular. The boss came by about lunch and sent us all home. Not many builders calling in lumber orders in an ice storm. Anyway, gotta go straighten my brake cam rods and finish gathering up the parts I'm gonna sandblast tomorrow. Kevin

I used to live in Simpsonville, South Carolina, and in Woodruff, Fountain Inn, and Mauldin. In the upstate, being close to the mountains, I have seen some really nice ice storms over that way and don't miss them one bit. We even had a little ice here in Georgia last year. No big deal, it melted the next day. Working at the airport I have had learjets sliding sideways on an iced over ramp at GSP while trying to tow them. For some reason the upstate gets some really bad ice every now and then being close to the leeward side of the mountains up there.

My Two Cents,

MACE

Not to sound disrespectful, but I don't think you boys know what a real ice storm is. Here in South Dakota, we had a storm start the Sunday after Thanksgiving. There was a half inch of ice (more in some places), followed by high winds and at least 11 inches of snow. Over 11,000 power poles snapped. Thousands of folks were without power for days. Many entire towns lost power so had to use generators for days. This Tuesday, Dec 13, the last of the power was restored. Not much on CNN about it, I guess 'cause we didn't have looters and rapists.

That's the whole point. We don't get much snow/ice here, so when we get even a little, people don't know how to prepare/handle it. Maybe 1/2 inch ice here and I would feel safe betting that there is NO bread or milk left in the stores. Oh, it's gonna be 50+ degrees today. Kevin

Kevin, you must be upstate. Here in the balmy Midlands it only went down to 30* yesterday morning and the drizzle didn't freeze.
Good thing, here in Richland County they close the schools for a heavy frost.

Oh, yeah. Seneca(Clemson area). Schools were closed yesterday and the local news says they are closed today as well. We don't have school districts in our county. So if there is still ice in any of the mountain portions of the county, they will call off the entire county.

I remember when the school bus came in deep snow with tire chains on when I was in was in school.
They never closed the schools. My wife and her sister had to walk over a mile just to catch the bus. My sister, brother and I had to walk a mile to catch it too. We were shipping milk in those milk cans back then and that milk truck was there with chains on too. If the snow was too deep to use the truck we would use a team of mules or horses to haul it out. Times have sure changed. Everyone is afraid of getting sued. Hal

That ice storm is coming from your direction and DC and here in MD will be getting it soon. So far just a a few snow flurries. They had a lot of places that lost power from this storm down your way. Hal

Luckily, we kept power, but most of our neighbors were not so lucky. As a matter of fact, my mother just arrived(with supper) because she has no power or heat. We lost cable(almost as bad as power!!) along with cable internet, but we're back up now.
