Here is a pic of our A pushing snow today, since we got alot, Mike S and Hugh can probably relate. This is my brother on the tractor. The blade is run by a char-lyn power pac, it is an IH blade, and a HERBCO frame. It works great. This tain"t no puffy fluffy snow, it"s HEAVY, and the A just went along for the ride. Some guys have said stuff about farmalls like H is for Handy, and M is for Mighty, Well i think A stands for Ant, A very small Creature, but yet it can do so much!

Hey, looks good, I have a 1953 Farmall A in my garage in St. Paul, plowed the alled twice then the habitat for humanity guy didn"t like the way it was plowed, was better than it had been in the 15 years I lived here, so I told the guy that the tractor can sit in the shed for the rest of the winter and it wouldn"t bother me at all and I wouldnt" have to buy gas for it, then the guy that lives next to him came running out to offer me $100.00 to keep plowing the alley out and said that everyone else wanted me to keep doing it, I still haven"t made up my mind I didn"t take the $100.00, I can clean out enough for me to get out with my snow blower so I just might let them sit in several feet of snow as the winter goes on and haul the tractor back to the farm next spring and leave it up there for good, funny how one moron can screw things up, there must be 25 houses here that were happy to be able to drive into the garage in the alley and the welfare guy didn"t like it, funny that one guy can screw up free snow plowing, and it was right down to the pavement, never been plowed down that good since I have lived here, will have to take a picture of the old girl and post it here if I remember..

I got a couple of questions for you, but first my compliments on a great pic and nice looking tractor. What is a Char-Lynn power pack?

I guess it has a few names, Power Pack, hi-lo pack. It is a sealed unit that runs off the pto, it has 2 handles, one on each side, one is for up and down, and i think the other is for down pressure. They are a nice little unit. If you go to the help identify pics, and type in char-lyn, a pic should come up.

Actually, nothing came up in that gallery. I guess I was not specific in my question. Is this some type of self contained hydraulic system for tractors that were not so equipped?

Right, if you had an f-20 or wc allis that didn"t have hydraulics, you could bolt the unit to the pto run hoses where they need to be and you got hydraulics, or you had all the hydraulics used on the tractor, so bolt it on and you have more.

I miss the snow and I miss my tractors.

Nice looking A with a useful blade. Always good to see people using these old tractors like they were meant to be!

Mitch: Nice photo of a nice tractor. I'll draw the line right there, nothing nice about todays snow. I have a feeling this storm tracked south and Mike is up there in Exeter, sunning himself.

Well, Hugh, it might have tracked south of him but it got us over in the eastern part of the province (up Arnprior way). 10" at 0500 this morning and still coming. I'm gonna call Mitch and see if he wants to drive his A up here and do my driveway!

Hugh, Triple-Post Violation!!!! You should know better! Haha! Anyway, y'all keep that white stuff up there. All we need today is a water plow here in Central Alabama.

Peabody: That triple post is quite interesting. I used to have this happen quite regularly. Someone would interupt me about the time I was going to post, and I'd forget and click a second time. For about the past 18 months my computer wouldn't let me do this. If I happened to click a second time, up on the screen would come. "ERROR you are entering something allready added to the forum", and it would not post the second time. I notice this has happened a couple of times in the past week. Marg. has been doing some upgrading to our system, thus not quite sure if she made some changes that affect this.

I also noticed about the same time, I would never get a responce to any photo adds I replied to. I brought this to Kim's attention. She looked into it and discovered new screening equipment she had installed to screen out some scams and other undesirable material, was also screening out everyone using the same server as I. She was able to correct this in about 5 min. I know this as we were both online at same time, and at one point had overlaping e mails. Not completely sure she has that one cured, I realize not everyone will respond for various reasons, the jury is still out on that, only time will tell.

Something else that happened in the past week. I used to have the option of clicking on a particular post, thus bringing up that one alone or I could click on expand and bring up entire thread. Now they are all treated as though I clicked on expand. I liked having the option, it saved a bit of time. I used both.

I question whether these changes occured as a result of Marg.'s ungrading, Kim's upgrading or could be my server is making some changes. I kind of liken these computers to some of the first hay balers we saw back in the 1950s. You corrected the problem but were never quite sure HOW, WHAT, WHEN or WHERE you did it. Someday the experts will improve these computers so they compare with a 1970s balers. The cure on those was quick and efficient, and you knew what cured it. Then with all new technology, there is a time frame difference between experts and users learning all.

Hugh, you reminded my of something I was thinking about tonight on my RT. as I went through Lincolin, MO. I remembered in 1955 my Uncle , Aunt, and I had gone to the Duroc Hog Show at the MO. State Fair in Sedalia, some where around Lincolin we saw a guy baling hay with a 50T IHC hay baler and he was pulling it with a team of horses.

Hugh,
I usually attribute those moves to having had a "senior moment" and move on. It's starting to happen to me on a regular basis.

Hugh, (Chuckle)..... I like your analogy of the 1970"s baler. You make 3 adjustments at once while you"re already off the tractor, and not quite sure which one was the one that solved the problem. Its like adjusting the cylinder speed and the screens of a combine at the same time. Which one did the trick? It does reduce the amount of times up and down the ladder tho, or does it?
