The daughters BN has a jumpy clutch no matter how easy the clutch is let out the tractor leaps. I thought maby the spline on the disc was stuck to the shaft. I took it apart & the only thing I could find wrong, the pilot bearing was worn & loose. I was wondering if that could be the problem. Any thoughts or suggestions would be appreciated.

had that problem for a while on my oldest bn. finally discovered that the pin where the clutch actuating rod fits to the petal had a corroded spot on it and as icwould leave out the clutch it would hit that spot and hang -up just enough that as i was still releasing the cluth pedal it would make a "jump" over the corroded area and move freely, making the clutch pedal act as though i was "popping the clutch. also just replaced the pedal return spring as it was the original and was quite weak. hope its another direction towards hepling you in your search for the problem!!

Check the flywheel and pressure plate to make sure that they are flat not warped. Check especially on the inside and outside radii of the clutch disk. Flat, flat, flat. Also check to make sure that the fingers are all the same height from the pressure plate.

I would check levers on pressure plate also.

If pilot bushing is worn/loose input shaft might have slop and wobble. Throw out bearing riding on shaft would contact pressure plate levers unevenly while engage/disengage clutch. Look for wear on levers and throw out bearing. Just a guess.

My BN does that but only in reverse, forward it's nice and smooth. I've yet to figure that one out.

I know, no help but I thought I would share.

I don't know if the worn pilot bearing could do that, but I would certainly fix it while it's apart.

A clutch that has grease or oil on it will grab. Does the disc or pressure plate have a glaze on them? Did you make sure it is clean?

I usually clean the the disc (both sides), the pressure plate & the flywheel with Brake cleaner. You can get it at any auto parts store. You may also need to get the flywheel ground to spec.

Maybe it's time for a new disc and pressure plate too.
