I was just wondering how responsive an H should be in road gera mine seems alittle slow to take off and will not do so on incline. I have a pitty heave loader on it and a 7 foot fisher plow on a 2 sets of weights on the rear. How should it respond?? Thanks

Had a 1940 h and still have the 1943 h both have crater pistons, the 1943 has overbore also and sure makes a difference in power especially noticable in 5th gear, can even start out in 5th going up an incline without ridding the clutch!!

I have a 43 "H" with loader(have snow blade on instead of bucket). With blade, loaded tires and chains it won't start in 5th never has but once rolling double clutch and it pulls good going down the road. it sees a lot of road travel. Have a good christmas.

The H does not have enough power to start out in road gear if it is on much of an uphill slope at all, especially if you have additional weight on it. You should be able to start if on the level, but even that will require slipping the clutch to get going. As others said, start in 4th to get rolling and switch to 5th. If you are on much of a hill, resign yourself to 4th gear unless you can get rolling on the level before you are on the hill. Be aware that grinding the gears shifting from 4 th to 5th is hard on the 4/5th slider gear and doing so will eventually wear out the teeth that mate with the input shaft gear. So do your best to avoid grinding the gears.

I have a H the same way , I think my clutch slips in 5th gear. Finally after some slipping ,the H decided to move and eventually grabs and takes off.

Sounds normal. 5th is direct drive, no gear reduction in the transmission.
