I really do appreciate your opinion and all the others too! Haven't met a single one of you but have grown to trust you through reading info on this site.
The sad thing about it is this 1466 is really a slick tractor. One of the nicest ones I have seen and I've been looking 6+ months. If it wasn't for the H2O problem, I would jump on it like a duck on a junebug.
As much as I really want this machine, I have decided to pass on it. Now I am out there looking again and something about me requires me to put my hands on it. Ebay or something like that is out of the question. That means within decent driving distance of central Oklahoma.
Thanks for all the help!!!

If you haven’t already checked out the cost of a rebuilt engine (or worst case scenario) then as Allen suggests, and I agree you should. This potential cost to you should be considered as part of your bargaining with the owner. If he won’t meet what you are willing to pay, then you need to walk and let him think about it for a while. He might come down in a week or two if he can’t find another buyer. :>)

Board participants have informed you of potential issues, but you alone have seen the tractor and you need to set YOUR value on it. We as board participants don’t have to continue looking for a tractor, or have to pay the price to fix up one that you bought…

My nickel’s worth.

You know,,,,,that's a good point. I'll stick by my original opinion, but that doesn't mean it's best for you. I think you said earlier you could do the work yourself. If you aproach this as a "work in progress" and have an idea of what you'll have in her when you are finished, you'll be fine. (Even though when I do this I always end up with more in the darn thing than what it's worth ;) And hey,,,,, ,,if you're buying a tractor it's not like you're buying something silly,,,,Right?
Good Luck

Michael,

Wait a darned minute!

Let's stop and think about this. A new engine will only make it better.

Just go price a new one that size and you'll see that this is VERY, VERY CHEAP HORSEPOWER.

If you really like the tractor, buy it and take your licks. Believe me, the hurt goes away 'bout the first time you put 'er in the field.

Allan
