I'd like to put a fuel shut-off valve after the sediment bowl assembly on my M. I just don't trust that Chinese valve on the sedminet bowl to work properly.

So, I have to cut a section out of the metal line to put in the valve, right? What's the best way to cut the line?

The line (unless replaced by others) is steel. The flaring described below is important for two reasons.

The first is that in a gravity feed system the fuel lines protect the tractor from fuel leak related fires and injury. The double flare is Brake Line rated technology and needs a special tool. it is mandatory to use this as it is more vibration resistant than compression fittings.

The second is that rubber hoses and hose clamps look unsightly and are not nearly as safe as steel.

If replacing some of the line, make it 10" longer and coil it to the correct length (with a tubing bender) to make installation and removal easier.

Hi Jim, How about using a braided steel line for fuel? We would be giving these old tractors the benefit of 21st century technology. The Air Force used these lines about the same time as when these old tractors were made. Hal

Braided Stainless steel lines with teflon liners and swedged on fittings are the finest. They would need a clip or two to keep them in position.
Some might consider them gaudy, But I drive a 57 Cj3B Willis with A 1950 International K series cab grafted to the passenger area. 95 amp Delco alternator, and Toyota Tercel rack and pinion steering with Taurus tie rod ends.

You should use a tube cutter and then use a double
flaring tool to flare the ends. Be sure to install the the tube nuts before flaring. Hal

Don't forget to rinse out the line if possible. Just that much less for the filter - sediment bowl to catch. My .02 worth.

it's probably a copper line, so i'd just use a tubing cutter. even if it's not copper it should cut it. thats the best way to get a straight cut.
remember to ream it out after.
