Just a update. A week or so ago I had asked where was the best place to get a starter for my 706.
NAPA wanted $250 for one.
The lowest price I found was on the internet for $116 + Core+ shipping. I did not order that one though. I called my IH dealer. They could get me a rebuilt one from Case IH for $126
No shipping No core as I took the old one with me.
This is about the 5th time the Dealer had the best deal for me.
Good on ya IH.

This summer I needed a set of roller bearings for the bull brake pinion on my 756. I priced them at CNH for $32 per bearing and race combo. Napa wanted $50 for the same thing and Greed Deere quoted $67! It always pays to check with the dealer first. Is that the 706 your going to overhaul? I got started on my 706 today it has a knock when cold that used to go away when she warmed up but not any more. Had about 600 easy hours on a dealer overhaul unrolling hay for cattle. Not liking what I'am finding, no6 is lightly scored and two others have up and down wear pattern. Not sure what I'am going to do yet, replace one sleeve piston assembly and send it on its way or fix it right and keep it.

Yes it is.
I think I am going to sneak out to the shop tomorow and start cleaning it up and getting organized for the rebuild. My shop is a mess.Tools, parts and junk every where.

600 hrs on a dealer rebuild huh? hehehe heard that one my self. Now I just buy them broke. AT least I know what I've got when I am done.
As for fixing the 706 you have I guess it depends on if you have a job for it.
My 400 will get the best of every thing. It has a job. My 460 would have needed about $2000 to be great, but no job that the 400 could'nt do. So out she went.
I have a need for the 75 HP the 706 has so she gets fixed up nice.
My H has a job so she stays. ( like I would ever get rid of her any way)
My 300 is the head scratcher. No real job for her so she sits in the shop. Been there 3 years now. Tinker here tinker there, some day she is going to run. just no hurry.

This old beast was bought new by my dad and uncle and it has been in the shop many times over the years, always with engine trouble. Two overhauls, four burnt valves, ect, in 6000 hours. The rest of the tractor has been trouble free except one shifter rebuild and one clutch. Still has the original ta. It was last rebuilt about seven years ago in the middle of the winter when she dropped a valve. Dad wanted to keep it for winter feeding and I did not have my heated shop then so it was off to the local CNH dealer. Dealer mechnic has great reputation but with these gassers and the stuff they call gas these days you never know. Anyway's it has to move out of the shop soon as it takes up 2/3's of it and I have to many other progect's to get to. I'am thinking of transfering the cab to my 756D and using that for feeding but we all know how they like cold weather but at least it would'nt suck down a tank of fuel a week. Good luck on your overhaul.

Wow.
Do you think its the low octane gas that causes the engine problems?

Not this time on this one. When we overhauled it the mechnic was very insitent on the need for at least 93 octane gas. So I have been having my fuel supplier fill a few drums with 93 just for this tractor. Alot of bother and expense just for one tractor that's why I'am thinking of sending it down the road and be all diesel.
