Kev, there's an ad in the regular classifieds. A fellow in IN or IL has 340 engine parts.

So what you are saying is the 153 doesnt have sleeves that will firt the 135 block? The 340 broke a crankshaft and ruined one sleve and piston I have both a 135 and a 153 but the blocks wont bolt in a 340 as you know the 340 and 504 blocks arent the same as the 113 - 135's. So Am I going to have to replace the parts fron the 135? I wanted to go 153 for the 3 14's fast hitch plow on plow day. If we plow in light ground the 135 will do it but there is nothing to spare. I put a 153 in a B farmall and pulled 3 16's no power problems.Didnt do it too long tho just enough to get attention from the green guys

The 504 was one of the few IH tractors that didn't have sleeves. When a cylinder was scored
the block had to bored oversize. The block may
not have been heavy enough to install sleeves.
The US Government used a lot the 504's for mowing firing ranges. It took a lot of power to drive
those big rotary mowers and that was at full throttle. They switched to big Fords when they had problems with the 504's and sold them at auction.

You would be better off to find a good used crankshaft for the 340 and put in new stepped head pistons and sleeves. Here's a website for tractor salvage yards. Hal

Kevin,
Post the serial num of your C135 engine. Don't have the books in front of me but seems like around 100500(?) there is a changeover from early to late design. I believe that to be at the 404/504 introduction, but would be good to know your numbers to see how it fits my assumptions.

If my guess is right, you have the early C135 which will have nothing in common with the C153. Early C135s will have a 9 vs a 14bolt head as in the late C135 and the C153s; early C135s have a different crankshaft and rods from the later C135s (journals larger than the C113/123s, but smaller that the late C135/C153s); and as already stated, the C135 has wet sleeves (3-1/4" bore) while the C153 has non-replaceable sleeves and 3-3/8" bore.

If you decide to rebuild the C135 contact me off line as I still have a NOS firecrator C135 S&P set that I'm not using. Another option may be to buy a stripped block from a 504 which (I believe) should fit your 340 and use your internals from the other 153.
Good luck,
Stan(VA).

PS- and now that our 3 christmas dinners and traveling are wrapped up, I will add a belated Merry Christmas to all on this site as well!

Your 135 is a wet sleeve, the 153 you have to bore

I don't think many parts from your C153 will fit that C135 block. The bore has to be different.
