This is my 4166. It can be brutal if you spend a long day in there. These never had a muffler from the factory, just a straight pipe out of the turbo. So if I want to be loud..... ..
Still, I have a warm affection for this guy.
I"m checking to see if I got the picture the right size. I hope you don"t mind the experiment!

Yes, I have used it for packing silage. All 4 tires are loaded and you can see the weights on the front, but I don"t have a set for the back. If you"ve packed feed, you know that you spend all day going forward, stopping, and backing up. What"s nice about this is that with the 4-wheel steer, it turns so short that you can often just turn around at the bottom and just keep going! Of course when the pile gets higher, all you can see is sky when going up!

Looks perfect size to me!

What engine did those have in them? Grille looks similar to the 1256 so I'm guessing built in the 60's?

Hi Steven,
Mine"s a "73. They started out with the 4100 in 1966 at the same time they were developing the 1206. Then in "69 and "70 it became the 4156. Both of those had the DT429 motor in them. In "71 it turned into the 4166 and they put the DT436 in it. Then from "76 through "78 it was the 4186, still with the DT436. Even though all the other IH tractors got a nicer cab and other upgrades with the 86 series, these stayed pretty much the same to the end, even the grill I think. Paint scheme was a little different. I guess the production numbers were too low to justify any big changes.

Shoot, I cut the pic size to 50% of original and still it"s just as big. What gives?
I don"t even have a manual with my camera, so I don"t know how to adjust it there either.

thanks Allan :>)
Sometimes these computer things are just plain wierd. The size of the pic looks too big to me- I have to scroll side to side to see the whole deal. It is a nice original tractor though- just the way I like them. I built a foot throttle (still has the hand throttle too) for it which helps A LOT when shifting gears on the road. I used it to pull a manure semi tank where you are constantly shifting up and down on the road. The shift pattern is similar to the 06 series, with all the gears in a row, so you go through every gear.
