I am trying to change the right side outer differential bearing. I have removed both circlips and outer bearing race will spin in housing but inner race won't turn on diff. shaft. Do I have to remove entire final drive housing, or does diff shaft pull out, or exactly how do I get this bearing out. As well would anyone happen to know what this bearing number is so I can get a replacement. Thanks

If you have the retainer clips off, I don't think there is anything else holding the bearing in. However, there is nothing to get a hold of to pull it out. So, I think you will have to pull off the final drive. As others said, best to pull it off at the transmission. Once the bolts there are loose, the pinion shaft will just slide out of the differential, but you are not done. Then you will have to take loose and remove the tube between the final drive and the transmission and then the brake drum from the pinion shaft. The drum has a set screw, but is also keyed to the shaft with a woodruff key. Once all that is off, the shaft will slide out opening in the final drive housing where the cover was that I assume you already removed. Then you can replace the bearing. While you are into all this, replace all the seals too, as they are likely leaking and if you want to do it all, fix the brakes too. Have fun!!

You will have to pull the assy when you say right do you mean the drivers side. In either case the shaft assy has to go to towards the transmission. The bearing usually is pretty solid on the shaft and have worked on several last few years and dont remember any that the bearing would slide out thru the housing towards the tire side. Bearing # IH-GL-240

By right side, I do mean pass. side. To remove final drive housing, do I just unbolt it from diff shaft housing and slide it off? Does bearing and drive gear stay on shaft and what about inner seals-do they get damaged? Does diff shaft then just pull out? Thanks for your help.

You8 will have to unbolt at the trans as the brake drum is next to the trans. Then you can slide the diff shaft out away from the final drive. Mite want to remove the brake drum then the housing this will leave the diff shaft still in the final drive and then will be easier to pull the diff shaft. Mite want to check the inner and outer seals for leakage as chances are they are leaking. A cherry picker is handy for removal of the whole assy. Do you need the parts numbers for the two seals?

I have an I&T shop service manual I am using although the wrrite-up doesn't help much, the picture shows the brake drum out at the final drive. Does this mean I still have to unbolt at tranny? How does drum come off before final drive and exactly what holds shaft into diff? Is it the brake drum? If you have the seal dimensions that would be great because I am buying parts from an auto supply store and IHC part #'s won't cross over. Thanks for your info.
